Center for Common Ground Accelerating Justice Series: When Justice is Not Equal

February 18 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Last year’s nationwide protests erupted from a long, intertwined history of race and the criminal justice system that is rooted in slavery, segregation and racist violence.  The Center for Common Ground, in partnership with AMP America.org, has launched the “Accelerating Justice” webinar series because of wide concern for communities of color who suffer civic disenfranchisement, trauma and lost economic opportunities.

Racial equity in criminal justice is an achievable moral imperative and, increasingly, a subject of bipartisan interest.

Join us as we delve into the recent landmark report of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice. Moderated by Dr. Gabriela Lemus, Task Force member Senator Mujtaba Mohammed will be joined by leaders from North Carolina and national civil rights and faith-based organizations in discussion of how inequities threaten our democracy and destroy the fabric of our communities, and how the Report’s findings and recommendations can bring meaningful change toward an inclusive democracy.

Andrea Miller will show how the Center for Common Ground’s strategies empower communities of color in North Carolina and other states with a long history of suppression.

The Accelerating Justice series continues the discussion begun, last summer, with our Voting in Troubled Times: The Moral Imperative webinar.  Faith communities will play a particularly important role in promoting discussion and action across states and the nation.
Sign up HERE for the webinar.
Even Better, host a virtual Watch+ACT! party and invite friends, family and your faith community to watch the webinar and then discuss the issues and commit to take action with the Center for Common Ground.  Go HERE to get a Host Guide and everything you need.
